From the very beginning of the fourth campaign, new Dungeon Master Brennan Lee Mulligan has kept viewers on edge with extensive world-building, a colorful mix of heroes, and a exciting storyline featuring celestial beings, fiends, and dark forces growing in power within the urban setting.
Heads-up: Spoilers for Episode 3 of Campaign 4 are included.
The Combat-Oriented Party Unveiled
Episode 3 concluded with a dramatic pause and revealed the first table of adventurers who will split off from the primary party to embark on their own adventure, apart from the additional parties.
The combat-focused team consists of the determined fighter (played by Travis Willingham), the nimble rogue (the talented performer), Tyranny (Whitney), the cleric (the player), and the mysterious adventurer (Robbie).
Dividing the Cast
With 13 cast members, it was obvious from the beginning that keeping everyone at a single group would be unfeasible.
That’s why, the first four episodes of Campaign 4 serve as an Overture, intertwining the personal journeys before branching into three smaller tables: Warriors, Planners, and Seekers.
The Nature of the Combat Party
Per the Dungeon Master, the warrior group is for participants who enjoy a typically action-packed battle-oriented story mode where peaceful solutions are rare.
At first glance, figures such as the hesitant healer Wicander Halovar might seem out of place, but the events of episode 3 make it clear why these five characters are best suited for the warrior group.
Reasons to Leave
To begin with, the party understands precisely where to head next after a brutal initial meeting with The Crow Keepers.
A former ally of Thjazi—whose death initiated the campaign’s events—exploited the enemy for his selfish purposes, breaking into the hidden lair, attacking the character, and taking all the enchanted items to sell off.
The antagonist then paid off his debts and ran away to a fortified location in Gormalay, Timmony, beyond the urban center, with Cyd Pridesire pursuing him.
Character Drivers
Additionally, each character has a personal reason to leave the city the urban setting:
- The agile hero, as the close ally and closest confidant, desires vengeance.
- The knowledgeable figure has experience in the region and advises that it is a dangerous place.
- Tyranny and The cleric, having defied his relatives’ demands to kill the fighter and instead rescued him, have nowhere else to go.
- Yet, their position as key figures in the powerful family could help the team enter places they usually can’t.
- Moreover, The grateful character vowed a unbreakable promise to Wicander for his salvation and will now follow him anywhere.
Pursued by Authorities
In addition, all of them are wanted by the powers that rule Dol-Makjar for a range of causes, making staying in the city no longer safe:
- Thimble and The character are recognized lawbreakers.
- The strong figure and The healer turned against the influential house and the legion of demons they are aligned with.
- Teor is marked for death by the family.
This leaves them little choice but to journey toward Timmony in search of the antagonist.
Upcoming Developments
From the latest episode’s post-show segment, we find out that the warrior group will not appear the following episode, leaving the rest of the players to form the Questers and Schemers groups.
